The Mermaid

After a terrible auto accident a young woman is taken to the hospital. She is in a coma and has life-threatening injuries. Her daughter Sara is terrified her mother will die. In another scenario a young girl escapes from a state-run orphanage and ends up falling into a canal heavily trafficked by barges. She is rescued by two boatsmen … Tanfield Johns and Sassy Witherspoon … as they are motoring their craft to the city exit gates. Tanfield’s son KC thinks the girl is a mermaid. The story shifts back and forth between the hospital ICU unit, Jimmie and Sara trying to catch one of the family cats disappearing into a mysterious shadow tunnel in the living room wall and the adventures of Beth Ree in another world. All these events are connected in a mysterious way.
